Bosco di Zampaglione
Bosco Zampaglione (wood) also known as Bosco di Castiglione, is located in the northern part of the river Ofanto, and is within the municipalities of Aquilonia, Bisaccia, Calitri and Monteverde. Its area covers a total of 9,524 hectares, with a change in altitude of 400-900 meters. The forest includes many species, and is predominantly inhabited by animals such as weasels, foxes, hares, wolves, wild boars, pheasants, woodcocks, quails, badgers, kingfishers, herons, cranes, hawks, pheasants, robins, harriers, peaks, newts, salamanders, buzzards. Flora is characterized by the presence of Turkey oaks, chestnut trees and oaks. In addition, the area is full of wild edible plants. Among these, the Common chicory (Cichorium intybus), borage (Borago officinalis), wild turnip (Brassica rapa sylvestris), plantain (Plantago minor) and wild asparagus (typical of the area).
