MUSEO CASA ORTEGA
Three exhibition floors with 20 paintings and prints by the international artist Jose Ortega, member of pictorial realism but also an opponent of Franco government (Spain) and therefore forced to exile from 1960 to 1976. The drama is visible in his works: Madri dolorose, Il dittatore, Fame, Pietà. This is Casa Ortega, the museum in the hamlet of San Giovanni Bosco a Piro: Ortega was interested in the craftsmanship activities and he drew from the technique of papier-mâché to realize a frame. He used to model it to give shape and thickness to colors. There are exhibitions of his works in America, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy ... but among the many places he visited, there was a special one: Bosco, the small medieval village which took him back to the colors of his homeland, the artist said he could feel the same anguish and misery of those day labourers with dry and dark skin, just like the Spanish peasants. Ortega really loved this place and decided to stay there after the exile, until his death in 1990. You can visit the museum on appointment during the winter, while from June 15 to September 15 it is open every day from 16.30 to 19.30 Contact person is the mayor Ferdinando Palazzo.
