    Sieti
    AN ARCHITECTURAL GEM

Sieti

ETIMOLOGY AND HISTORY

The Village of Sieti is a coveted touristic destination, thanks to its location between woods, chestnut, olive and hazelnut trees. The urban planning has ancient origins: it is mentioned for the first time in the mid-eleventh century and it probably dates back to the X century. It was called Caput Sieti. This village is a small architectural jewel located in a natural basin. The amazing position is enriched by the presence of several noble buildings. Some of them are in good conditions, including Palazzo Pannasilico, Palazzo Fortunato, Palazzo de Pastina and Palazzo de Robertis.
The urban space of this ancient village has remained substantially similar to the original one, with an upper area (Sieti Alta) and a lower one (Sieti bassa). The central position is occupied by the bigger square of the village, Piazza Convento, dominated by the “Convento dei Servi di Maria” and by the adjacent “Santuario di M.SS. del Paradiso”. Here the typical, rural hospitality respects the rhythms of life and work of a village that produces high quality products, such as Giffoni’s round hazelnuts, extra-virgin olive oil, and chestnuts.
