AREA NATURALE MARINA PROTETTA COSTA DEGLI INFRESCHI E DELLA MASSETA
Marine Protected Area management body PNCVDA Here the rocks of Mount Bulgheria sink into the sea, forming one of the most beautiful underwater paradises of the Mediterranean Sea, rich in marine species disappeared elsewhere. Along the coast, over hundreds of thousands of years, intense karstic episodes have dug mysterious caves like the cave of Inferno, Water, of Monaco, Vitello cave, the Great Cave and the Shelter of Molare, in which important prehistoric sites were found. The stretch of coast, reachable almost exclusively from the sea, is accessible only through rare paths, owhich run along the sides of the mountain which from Mount Picotta in Scario, comes up to the Timpa del Piombo and lead from there, over the Valley of Marcellino, from the Timpa dei Sette Pani, goes down with a gentle slope to Cala degli Infreschi. The whole area is characterized by the Mediterranean scrub, which houses the forest dormouse, a small and almost unknown rodent, similar to the more famous dormouse.
